First church in Salantai was built in 1630. second in 1724. In the same place was built neo-gothic. two towered. red brick church in 1906-1911 by parishioners initiative. Achitect - Karlas Eduardas Strandmanas.
In the left nave altar hangs painting of Blessed Mother of God. famous for its magical power. painted in XVII century first half. Believers decorated painting with ornamented precious metal casing.
In churchyard are buried prelates P. Urbanavičius and A. Simaitis. canon K. Genys. priests-exiles P. Šatkus and B. Bagužas. there is a monument dedicated to priest K. Olšauskas who died in exile.
