It is Stanislavas Beinartas‘ merit that people call Paparčiai a prominent place. In 1649 he funded the construction of Dominicans monastery. the latter gave every effort to popularize this place.
Count Konstantinas Tiškevičius during his trip on the Neris river saw the white towers of the monastery over the tree tops and said: “It is famous Paparčiai“. Later. he described the place in his book The Neris and its banks.
At the time the monastery owned a huge library. a rich garden and even their own water supply system. What is more. in the monastery there was a school. where novices studied. Unfortunately. because of the active participation in 1831 and 1832 rebellions against Tsar an his government. the monastery was closed and. later on. destroyed. Nevertheless. there are many things to see for curious tourists. It‘s only a miracle that the gate and the graveyard chapel of the monastery survived. In the place. where the monastery‘s main building once stood. now there is a community house. Here everyone can take place in various educational workshops. lectures and festivals of baroque music. Nature lovers have a possibility to visit the Paparčiai Botanical Reservation. one of the first established reservations in Lithuania. There is a vast number of herbs which are very rare.
