51.- Palace of Velarde in Oviedo
Urban palace with a square floor plan. structured on three floors around a central courtyard with eight Tuscan columns. through which. and by means of a monumental staircase. the upper floor is accessed. The conception of the three freestanding façades is completely different. as the back is completely functional and on the lateral façade. open to the private garden. some ornamental elements are played. On the main façade the horizontal lines. the great projection of the shelves of the balconies and the triangular and curved pediments establish a monumental design destined for contemplation from a broader perspective. This Palace houses. along with other neighbouring buildings (such as that of the Oviedo-Portal family). the Museum of Fine Arts of Asturias. one of the main art galleries in Spain.
