3.- Old Asturias Regional Hospice. Hotel de la Reconquista
Charity building rehabilitated as a luxury hotel. The main façade is structured in two floors (the ground one with seven semi-circular arches of half point and the superior one with balconies). The central street of strong Baroque style and very similar to the Palace of Toreno stands out. It has fluted columns. a split pediment that houses the balcony ledge. which is in turn framed by pilasters with corbels and topped with a large shield that crowns the façade. The plan responds to the typical structure of Renaissance hospitals. arranged around several patios porticoed with Tuscan columns. The octagonal chapel. covered with a dome. completes the axis established by the two main courtyards and the façade. The spatial organization chart has been substantially altered. covering the patio currently called “salón de Gil de Jaz” and uncovering the so-called “patio de la Reina”.
In 1752 the construction works of the building contracted with Pedro A. Menéndez de Ambás began. In 1754 the façade. which is attributed to Manuel Reguera. was finished and between 1768-70 the chapel was built. designed by Ventura Rodríguez and built by Manuel Reguera. The works were completed in 1777.
