7.- Collegiate Church Santa María la Mayor in Salas
Building promoted by Fernando Valdés Salas. built between 1540 and 1550 with a design possibly by Rodrigo Gil de Hontañón. in Late Gothic style. It suffers various extensions and reforms over time. in styles such as the Classical Purism of the late 16th or early 17th (chapel of the Malleza and bell tower located at the foot of the nave) and the Purism of the second quarter of the 17th century (with a design by Gonzalo de Güemes Bracamonte) in the north side portico and the Capilla de los Dolores (Chapel of Sorrows).
It is a rectangular building with a single nave. a tribune at the foot and a polygonal apse. On the outside it displays few openings and a robust aspect. emphasizing the cover in the form of a pointed arch on which the escutcheon of the founder is erected.
On the inside. the highlight is the mausoleum of Archbishop Valdés Salas. built by the workshop of Pompeyo Leoni in 1582. which includes the tombs of the parents of the founder of the collegiate church.
