The Collegiate Church of Santa María do Campo receives its name because its original construction was located outside the walls of the city. although it is currently located in the old part of the Old City of A Coruña. From its beginnings. it was the church of the seafaring guilds since. for a long time. sailors and navigators had the habit of visiting this church as soon as they returned from sea. as a sign of gratitude for having returned safely at port.
The first building is from the year 1150. with extensions being built between the 13th and the 15th century as well as during the 19th century. Of the original 1150 building. only the main chapel remains. slightly rotated with respect to the subsequent extensions. The Collegiate belongs to the ogival Romanesque style. It consists of three naves with a semi-circular apse upon a basilical floor plan. Of the three portals. the oldest is the southern entrance. The façade was modified in the 19th century but retains its old portico. Its main portal is ornamented with an Epiphany or Adoration of the Kings. Its bell tower and spire date back to the fifteenth century. it also has an ogival rosette on the front. Within it we can find the Museum of Sacred Art. Declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in 1931
