The Cathedral of Saint-Front is built in the city centre of Périgueux. on the tomb of Saint Front de Périgueux. the legendary evangelist of the Périgord. which gave its name to the central district of the city (*Puy-Saint-Front*) in the Middle Ages. Originally a simple church (at the beginning of the 5th century). it underwent several destructions and reconstructions. becoming. from 1669. the cathedral of the diocese of Périgueux. It was declared a historical monument in 1840. also erected as a minor basilica in 1897. and listed as a World Heritage Site under the Ways of Santiago de Compostela in 1998. This domed cathedral was almost entirely rebuilt during the restoration undertaken by Paul Abadie in the 19th century. Later. this architect was inspired by the construction of the Sacred Heart in Paris. The Way of the Cross painted around 1850 by Jacques-Émile Lafon was restored in 2002.
