It is one of the most representative churches of Galician Romanesque art (12th century). with evident Compostelan influences. Located in the centre of the village of Cambre. the church is surrounded by gardens from which one can enjoy the peculiar perspectives of the temple. The church was constructed using granite stone. its Latin cross ground plan possesses three naves as well as an ambulatory with five chapels. The main façade features a semi-circular arch. which is supported by four columns with capitals. ornate archivolts (plant motifs. geometric elements and biblical scenes) and two buttresses with figures of angels that support a tympanum decorated with a medallion. Between the arch and the rosette. the impost is adorned with corbels. On the sides there are two interesting windows with pointed arches. Worth highlighting within the church is the central nave. which possesses pillars with four attached columns. the capitals of which are decorated with vegetal motifs and scenes from the Bible. Among the fittings. the baptismal font stands out as it represents one of the mythical hydrias (pitchers or jars) of the biblical episode of the wedding at Cana. in which Jesus turns water into wine through the intercession of the Virgin Mary. This piece could have been brought by the Knights Templar who had settled in this area (around O Burgo and O Temple).
This construction is classified as a National Monument. as well as an Asset of Cultural Interest and has a great artistic and historical value.
